Tom Murray ( September 8 , 1874 – August 27, 1935 ) was an American film actor. From 1922 to 1931, he appeared in thirteen films, including two directed by Charlie Chaplin . Born in Stonefort, Illinois. In films he played small roles, usually villains. His most famous roles were in Charlie Chaplin's films: the stubborn sheriff in " Pilgrim " (1923) and the criminal and gold prospector Black Larsen in " The Gold Rush ."
