Henry Bergman ( February 23 , 1868 – October 22 , 1946 ) was an American stage and film actor, known for his long collaboration with Charlie Chaplin . Born in San Francisco, California. Performed in the theater. First appeared on screen in 1914, at the age of 46. His collaboration with Charlie Chaplin began in 1916 with the film " The Department Store Controller ". During his subsequent film career, he starred in such Chaplin films as " The Pawnbroker's Shop ", " The Immigrant ", " A Dog's Life ", " The Kid ", " A Woman of Paris ", " The Gold Rush ", " The Circus ", " City Lights ". His last screen appearance was in Chaplin's film " Modern Times " as a restaurant manager. He later assisted Chaplin in the filming of the film " The Great Dictator ". Chaplin helped Bergman finance the restaurant "Henry", which he opened in Hollywood. The restaurant became a popular meeting place for celebrities, the forerunner of the restaurant " Brown Derby ". Henry Bergman continued to collaborate with Charlie Chaplin until his death from a heart attack in 1946. The actor is buried at Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery in Culver City, California. Read More
